Geboren am 31.5.1773 in Berlin als Sohn eines Seilers. Er studierte Theologie, Philosophie und Literatur. 1799 in Jena im Kreis der Frühromantiker. 1804/05 Aufenthalt in Italien. 1817 in England, Beschäftigung mit Shakespeare . Seit 1825 Dramaturg des Hoftheaters Dresden. 1841 von Friedrich Wilhelm I nach Berlin gerufen. Tieck starb am 28.4.1853 in Berlin.
