Beschreibung
This book is a study of tense and aspect in Nigerian Pidgin. The structural and textual patterning of tense and aspect in Nigeria Pidgin is explicated based on the earliest versions of Chomsky`s transformational generative grammar with the aim of providing a platform for the application of latter theories including government and binding principles and X-bar syntax. Introspective, experimental and analytical methods were employed for corpus collection from Warri, Sapele and Port-Harcourt.Data was also collected from First Language speakers of Nigerian Pidgin and printed sources. The study clearly demonstrates that Nigerian Pidgin is a full-fledged language with all features of a natural language whose structure is amenable to theoretical and conceptual analysis.
