Beschreibung

Recently, diseases emerging and re-emerging from domestic and wild animals have shown a stark impact on human health globally. A recent reminder of the ever increasing modern day human public health challenge, for example, is the Ebola out-break in west Africa that claimed thousand lives in the region. Zoonotic diseases arising from food animals, dairy farms and the environment are major public health concern all over the globe. In both rural and urban milk-marketing systems, the interconnected issue of the risk to human health caused from consumption of raw and fermented milk could pose a serious health hazard.Ethiopia holds large potential for dairy development due to its large livestock population and the country has been working towards increasing the economic benefits from the sector. However, due attention should be given to the health impact and safety aspect of dairy systems. To institute an appropriate intervention on public health impact of milk-borne pathogens, one needs to have properly documented baseline information regarding awareness of dairy farmers on milk-borne zoonoses and this book depicts the level of awareness of farmers on milk-borne zoonoses.
